EIGHTY FOUR, PA. (April 15, 2020) – 84 Lumber and Nemacolin Woodlands Resort were inspired by their community’s effort to feed those in need across western Pennsylvania. After first donating $100,000 to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank on Wednesday afternoon, the sister companies decided to up the ante and challenge the community to raise $600,000 through WTAE-TV’s Project CommUnity Day of Giving. After hitting that goal, 84 Lumber and Nemacolin donated an additional $400,000, bringing the total raised to $1 million for the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank.

“These are difficult times that we are facing as a nation and as a city,” said Maggie Hardy Knox, president of 84 Lumber and Nemacolin. “Everyone is dealing with some type of challenge in one way or another. At 84 Lumber and Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, we believe that one of those challenges shouldn’t be having enough food on the table. By giving this donation, we want to help lessen this burden for our neighbors.”

The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is seeing a significant spike in demand for food as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their volunteers are therefore working each day to provide drive-through pick-ups throughout the region to feed children, families and senior citizens facing hardship in this time of need. The WTAE-TV Project CommUnity Day of Giving encouraged friends, family and neighbors around Pittsburgh to donate to the food bank to ensure they can continue serving those who need it. Each $1 donation provides approximately five meals.
