84 Lumber Celebrates Military Appreciation Month

84 Lumber’s ‘Operation Appreciation’ Continues for a Second Year

84 Lumber Celebrates Military Appreciation Month

EIGHTY FOUR, Pa. (June 1, 2017) – Initially launched last year, 84 Lumber created Operation Appreciation to celebrate those who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedom. Throughout the month of May, 84 Lumber held a series of programs and activities to recognize active and veteran service members and their families.

In addition to holding a Facebook contest where 84 Lumber awarded $8,400 in store credit to three veterans or military families, the company continued to create combat wounded preferred parking spaces, offered store discounts and increased support for their Homes for Our Troops initiative. Additionally, as part of the grand opening of their first Boston store in May, 84 Lumber made a donation to the New England Center and Home for Veterans.

“Our commitment to the military began with our founder, Joe Hardy, who proudly served in World War II. Since then, our country’s service members have always been a big part of who we are,” said Tim McElhone, Director of Talent Acquisition. “As part of our recruitment campaign this year, we’d love to add to the more than seven percent of our workforce who are veterans.”

Below are more details on 84 Lumber’s Operation Appreciation initiatives that continued throughout the month of May.

Operation Appreciation Facebook Contest

Through May 26, 84 Lumber gave away $8,400 each week in store credit to three deserving military family or service members. 2017 recipients were based upon nominations for deserving military members (active or veteran status) and included the Hackl family, based in Florida, the Sivos family, based in Massachusetts, and the Henderson family, based in Indiana.

Combat Wounded Preferred Parking

At each of its more than 250 stores across the country, 84 Lumber continued to recognize injured veterans through the combat wounded parking signs and spaces that were installed during last year’s Operation Appreciation. These preferred parking spots are in honor of the Wounded Warriors Family Support program and are just one of many small gestures 84 Lumber is proud to implement in gratitude of military service.

Store Discounts

Throughout the year, 84 Lumber offers all active and veteran military service members a 10 percent discount in each of its stores. The company also offered a 15 percent discount from May 22 through May 29 in honor of Memorial Day.
