84 Lumber Offers Support to Uniontown Region After Rare, Devastating Tornado

Company donates building materials and hygiene products to support relief efforts

EIGHTY FOUR, Pa. (Feb. 27, 2018) – 84 Lumber is helping the Uniontown community rebuild after an EF-1 tornado struck the region on Feb. 15, 2018. Last week, the company’s Uniontown store (#226) delivered various building materials to the Fayette County Community Action Agency (FCCAA) to support ongoing recovery efforts. The FCCAA continues to serve as the central point of contact for financial donations and emergency assistance.

To help restore local businesses and homes that were impacted by the storm, 84 Lumber distributed about 15,000 pounds of building supplies, including lumber, plywood and felt, to the FCCAA last Friday, Feb. 23. Various hygiene products such as razors, toothpaste and soap were also donated to the East End United Community Center in Uniontown to distribute to those in need. The company has also provided manpower, with associates from both 84 Lumber and Nemacolin Woodlands Resort volunteering at a free luncheon for area residents last Monday, Feb. 19.

“Our associates, customers and communities are part of the 84 Lumber and Nemacolin Woodlands Resort families,” said Maggie Hardy Magerko, president and owner of 84 Lumber and Nemacolin. “In the wake of this unprecedented storm, we’re committed to supporting Uniontown. We will continue to assess the damage and help with repairs so that together, we can get people back to their lives.”

Both Hardy Magerko and 84 Lumber founder Joe Hardy have been long-time advocates for Uniontown and other communities across Fayette County. Last week, Hardy Magerko made a donation to the Brownsville Area School District for the purchase of new metal detectors. The Hardy family also offered support to the Connellsville region after severe flooding in 2016.

As recovery efforts continue, 84 Lumber’s Uniontown store, located at 84 Romeo Lane, Uniontown, Pa. 15401, will remain fully operational and will update inventory as needed to assist local residents. A multi-agency resource center is also being established at the FCCAA today, Feb. 27, with the help of the Fayette County Emergency Management Agency. Area residents can visit between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. for food vouchers and other assistance.
