EIGHTY FOUR, Pa. (Jan. 4, 2024) – 84 Lumber, the nation’s largest privately held building materials supplier, is proud to announce its end-of-the-year Team Headquarters Award winners. The company launched the award program in 2022 to recognize associates twice a year in two categories: the Business Excellence Award and the Rising Star Award.
The Business Excellence Award recognizes an associate who has demonstrated leadership skills, achievement, growth, and success at 84 Lumber. This was awarded to Nick Nickells, pricing manager, manufacturing, who joined 84 Lumber in 2002 as a design trainee. Nickells has been with the company for 22 years and was promoted to his current role in 2014.
“Nick has demonstrated what it means to be an 84 Lumber associate,” said Kurt Ott, director of technical services at 84 Lumber. “Nick was instrumental in developing the pricing method used by our component plants. His positive attitude, willingness to roll up his sleeves at a moment's notice, and responsiveness to the needs of our people are invaluable.”
The Rising Star Award recognizes up-and-coming associates at 84 Lumber and was awarded to Kathy Silver, phone receptionist/mailroom. This person is an associate to watch, who has had a significant impact on their team and has a bright future with the company. Silver started with the company in February 2021 and has become a great asset, bringing stability and quality to her department.
“Kathy assists with a variety of jobs throughout the day, including answering and directing calls, putting together new hire packets, sorting 300-400 pieces of mail, and has been coming into work early every day to help clean while the janitorial staff is down an associate,” said Matt Devore, maintenance and shipping supervisor at 84 Lumber.
Twice a year, 84 Lumber associates at headquarters can nominate fellow associates for each award. The company leadership team then selects the final winners from the list of nominations.
